Green silicon carbide is made of petroleum coke and high-quality silica, with salt as an additive, by smelting at a high temperature in a resistance furnace. After smelting, the crystal gets high purity and hardness, among which the hardness is between corundum and diamond, and the mechanical strength is higher than corundum. Green silicon carbide is produced by the same method as black silicon carbide, but it requires higher purity of raw materials, and also forms at the high temperature of about 2200°C in a resistance furnace. It is green, translucent, hexagonal, and suitable for processing of cemented carbide, glass, ceramics and non-metallic materials, but also for semiconductor materials, high-temperature silicon carbide rod heater, infrared substrate, etc.
